I have
just received the stones/jewelry yesterday. Jewelry is better
manufactured than last time. I like both very much .Thanks
for the extra stones. I have tried heating zircons and some
peridots during the night at low temperature (500°C).
It is good indeed. The brown color on zircons becomes lighter
thus brownish-green becomes more green. For brownish peridots,
no effect. Thanks a lot for sending stone for me to toy
around with.!

morning Ahmed. I have received my shipment. Much of the
order was very, very nice. Your customer cuts were as you
said amazing beyond belief. The fire opal was nice.
Over all I am pleased. In the future I will have to be more
specific on the Ausi-Opal. I did want standard calibrated
cabs, even sent a picture of what I wanted and what I didn't
want.
All of my Tourmaline was amazing and the custom cuts are
so nice I am beside myself. Your packing method is an art
form in it's own too. My postman had to know what the package
was.

Why
do people send cutting work overseas? Three reasons -
price, price, and price. All my overage goes to Sri Lanka
because US cutting is expensive (contact me offline -
facets@aol.com or technofacet@mac.com - if you want to
do some reasonably priced contract cutting!) and overseas
cutters have gotten exponentially better recently. Market
forces are demanding better cutting, so the shop I use
is all-Imahashi machines and all 50K diamond polishing.
An SRB done there is the equivalent of US faceting to
(my) naked eye. How many people use a loupe to look at
jewelry?
Plus,
US cutting is usually on more-or-less a per-piece basis,
so the cutting cost for a 1/2 carat stone becomes astronomical.
For accent stones, multiple stone jewelry etc., the cost-benefit
ratio is very favorable.
There's
something to be said too for trusting your material to
someone who runs a shop that can cut 500 stones a day.
Remember, commercial houses turn out cut kunzite by the
thousands! I've never had them have a lot of trouble with
anything, and they always account for EVERY stone sent
to them (all rejects are returned in various state of
preform, half cut, etc.).

I have to tell you how amazing the sphenes you cut were!
So many were so large and so clean but most of all the
rounds and trillions especially set off the stunning red
and green fire in the stones, sphenes of this quality
have been selling on eBay for as much as $100/ct and more!
They display SO well under the halogen lights!!!! The
demantoid garnets were fabulous too, and the bastnasite
just sparkles non-stop! The two colorless euclases were
super cut for something so soft and miserable to cut!
The two smaller oval tourmalines I have decided to keep
to make jewelry with as well as two 4.9mm kornerupines
rounds that are a close enough match for earrings. I have
already set a pair of 1.5mm demantoids that I just got
back from you into a pair of 14k gold french style ear
wires and now need something pretty to hang from the earring
as an accent, the demantoids are so bright and sparkly
and intensely colored that despite their tiny size the
really stand out in the earring, I can't wait until the
earrings are done,.
